For Parents

Football will make you a better person.

But it takes work. Parents should know that football is a big commitment, for both you and your child. We practice 3-nights a week - outdoors, in all conditions (except lightening), with 1 game per weekend during the season. If you can make the commitment, your child will learn about teamwork by playing on the ultimate team game. There is a position on the football field for everybody - no matter how big or small, fast or slow. If your child is between the ages of 7 & 15 and lives in South Edmonton they can play for Millwoods!

Practice starts at 6:30pm and goes until 8:30pm on Monday’s, Wednesday’s & Thursdays. We begin practice at the end of May and go until the end of the season in October. If we make the playoff and do well, we play as late as early November.

Parental Concerns

Communication is crucial in any organization, and it is important that parents are aware of whom to direct a question, concern, or comment.

Coaches, who are volunteers, have made a large commitment to teach your child how to play football.  They are expected to come to practice prepared to coach their players. In order for this limited time to be used most effectively, please do not expect to discuss matters with the coaches before a practice. All issues should be communicated to the team Manager.

If you must address a concern with someone at a practice or game, please approach the team manager. This person is generally the most knowledgeable, and by doing so, it is less disruptive to the activity on the field.  All official complaints must be submitted on the formal complaint form and sent to the General Manager, who will address the issue at the monthly Board of Directors Meeting.

Code of Conduct

As Parents, we also follow a code of conduct:

AS A PARENT I WILL:

  • Not force my child to participate in sports.
  • Remember that my child plays sport for his or her enjoyment, not for mine.
  • Encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • Teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game/event.
  • Make my child feel like a winner every time by offering praise for competing fairly and trying hard.
  • Never ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  • Remember that children learn best by example. I will applaud good player’s performances by both my child’s team and their opponents.
  • Never question the official’s judgement.
  • Respect and show appreciation for the trained volunteer coaches who give their time to provide sport activities for my child, understanding that I have a responsibility to be a part of my child’s development.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sporting activities.
  • I will be on my best behaviour at all times and will not use profane language or harass players, coaches, referees, league administrators or volunteers.
  • I will be responsible to ensure attending guests also abide by this Code of Conduct.
