A Message from Coach Morris of the Golden Bears:

Hello Players and Parents,

I hope that final exams are going well for each of you.  The U of A is offering all high school players in the city the opportunity to train at the same facility and with the same strength and conditioning coach as the Golden Bears.  It is an excellent opportunity to get better and at a very inexpensive cost.  The Golden Bears are also having a high school prep camp in the 2nd week of August – that information is attached.
All information on the training is below.  Please contact me if you have any questions:

(Open to students in grade 9 or higher)

Hey coaches, the University of Alberta summer football training program is now officially open for registration. All sign ups and payments will be done through the activity registration zone. All a prospective attendee needs to do is to call 780-492-2231 the camp registrar will ask them what time they would like to attend and process the payment. The camp officially starts Monday June 24th and we will be running sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be sessions running starting at 7:00 Am and the final session of the day starts at 4:30 Pm. This means that the official sessions for the camp are:

  • 7:00-8:30 Am
  • 8:30-10:00 Am
  • 10:00-11:30 Am
  • 12:00-1:30 Pm
  • 1:30-3:00 Pm
  • 3:00-4:30 Pm

We are placing a maximum of 15 athletes per session and the sessions will be filled on a first come, first served basis. It is possible for a large section of athletes from the same program to all work out together in the same grouping but in order for this to happen, they will need to register quickly. From what I have been hearing, the camp will be very well prescribed and some programs have the intent of registering large groups from their respective schools. There is lots of room but it would be wise to get on registration as quickly as possible especially if you want large groups of students to be working out together.

One of the key things I wanted to accomplish when I took over the head coaching position here was to give a far greater level of support to all developmental levels of football in Northern Alberta and more specifically the Capital District. I am very hopeful that this is a good move in this direction and that it helps all of you in the development of your players and respective programs!

We are also planning to run a ‘Pre Season Primer’ camp for everyone and anyone who is interested in getting a head start to their season. From August 6-9 @ 6-8Pm we will be running a football fundamentals camp with controlled contact to help reduce any chance of injury. The camp is designed to have the kids get back into the football grove before your official training camp kicks of the week of August 15. This will give athletes the opportunity to feel very comfortable heading into camp and give them extra time to work on the fundamentals of the sport. We will be opening registration for this camp at the start of next week.

As always any feedback or suggestions you might have around what we are trying to do to support your efforts would be greatly appreciated…I am just a phone call or email away.
